Meet Katie, The Founder
"I believe that kids are the most important people on this earth, and that ALL children deserve to live a happy, meaningful, and fulfilling life."
At the heart of The Little Shop of Lansdale is a simple, powerful belief: every single child has limitless potential if they are given the right tools, the right environment, and the right champion. For founder Katie Purcell, this isn't just a professional mission—it is her life's work.
A Parent's Perspective & A Champion for Families
Katie’s journey is defined by her deep, hands-on commitment to youth development, education, and family advocacy. She brings a rare blend of professional expertise and deeply personal lived experience to the community:
An Experienced Parent: Her dedication to children goes far beyond the classroom. Katie has opened her home and heart as a parent to over 13 foster children and adoptive parent to 4.
A Trusted Advocate: Katie has partnered with over 50 local school districts, helping families navigate the complex worlds of special education, IEPs, and school-system advocacy.
The Strength-Based, Individualized Approach
Katie doesn't believe in one-size-fits-all education. Her philosophy is entirely individualized—rooted in figuring out what uniquely motivates each student and building directly on their existing strengths.
She specializes in teaching the critical, real-world skills that traditional classrooms often miss. Whether working on executive functioning, social navigation, academic growth, or job readiness, Katie focuses on helping kids find their own "why" and teaching them the essential ability to think beyond the moment.
Outside the Shop: Puzzles, Plants, & Personal Style
When she isn't advocating for families or mentoring youth, you can usually find Katie bringing her creative energy into her everyday life:
Puzzle Enthusiast: She loves a good mental challenge and views organizing community support much like a giant puzzle—finding just the right place for every unique piece.
Fashion-Oriented: She has a keen eye for style and design, believing that self-expression through fashion is a wonderful way for youth (and adults!) to build confidence.
Proud Plant Mom: Much like her approach to teaching, Katie knows that with the right environment, patience, and care, even the most delicate plants can grow and thrive.
Whether she is prepping for an IEP meeting with a parent, teaching a teenager how to manage a cash register, or coordinating community resources, Katie is driven by a single, unwavering goal: ensuring that every child has the opportunity to build a happy, independent, and purposeful life.
